Wanda Marie Mills

    Wanda Marie Mills, age 75, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

    Wanda was born Sunday, March 6, 1949, in Rutheford County to the late Gaines Odell Simmons and Annie Bell McDaniel Simmons. Wanda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to sing gospel music and play the piano. Wanda was a choir director for many years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Wanda worked in textiles for over thirty years before pursuing her dream as a hairdresser. Wanda and her daughter Regina both went back to college and got their cosmetology licenses. Afterwards owned and operated the “Cutting Edge Beauty Salon.” Wanda was a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Alan Ross, her daughter Chris Jury, a brother, Norman Simmons and a sister, Muriel Searcy.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Stanley Mills, daughter, Regina Rhodes and husband, Thomas; stepdaughter, Jackie James and husband Brandon; grandchildren, Alison Ross and husband Cory Keck, Ben Ross, Lane Rhodes, Ayden Rhodes, Lillian James, Audrey James; one great grandchild, Cooper Keck and a nephew, Dee Searcy.

   There will be a memorial service held at 4:00 pm on Friday, August 23rd at the Piney Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Casey Stockton officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the time of the service at the church.
